Nutella Flower Bread

Nutella flower bread is a must try for all Nutella lovers! I must confess that I’m a huge fan of Nutella and I always have a Nutella jar in my cupboard.

This beautiful Nutella flower bread is almost too pretty to eat. It is a combination of a basic sweet dough similar to making cinnamon rolls and the richness of chocolate and hazelnut.

Nutella flower bread is one of my favorite deserts and it’s so wonderful to eat it when still fresh and warm out of the oven.

INGREDIENTS

  • 3½  cups (450g) flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 7g active dry yeast
  • 1 small Nutella jar

For the glaze

  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 tbsp water

STEPS

Below I prepared some explanations and lots of pictures how to make Nutella Flower Bread, so it would be easy for you to understand and repeat the process.

In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine 1 tsp of sugar, yeast and warm milk. Let stand until foamy (about 10 min). With the mixer running on low speed, add salt, melted butter, sugar, beaten egg, milk and flour, beating until a soft dough forms.

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover and let rise for about an hour in a warm place.

When the dough has doubled, divide it into 4 equal parts. Roll each part into a roll and then roll out each ball into a circle.

Spread a Nutella layer evenly on the surface but leave the edges clear. You can use a big plate to mark the edges, just like in the picture.

Add the second dough layer that has been rolled out. Spread another layer of Nutella and continue so till all the four dough circles are used up.

Now, place the big plate you used before, on the top dough circle and cut the edges away.

Find a glass or a cup and place it right in the center of the circles, don’t press it too much. And now imagine cutting a pizza into 16 segments. Make 4 cuts, then cut each piece in half and then again cut each piece in half, simple.

The fun part for me begins here. Take two segments next to each other and twist them twice in opposite directions, away from one another.

When all segments are twisted, seal the edges together, just like in the picture.

Your Nutella Flower Bread already looks nice. Keep it in a warm place for about 15 minutes. Meanwhile prepare the egg wash by mixing together an egg yolk and 2 tablespoons of water.
Brush the surface with the egg wash and bake the Nutella flower bread at 175C for 15-17 minutes or until the surface looks golden.
